Subject: life

“A life is such a strange object, at one moment translucent, at another utterly opaque, an object I make with my own hands, an object imposed on me, an object for which the world provides the raw material and then steals it from me again, pulverized by events, scattered, broken, scored yet retaining its unity; how heavy it is and how inconsistent: this contradiction breeds many misunderstandings.”

- Simone de Beauvoir

We

 photo -1_zps0c8b0ee5.jpg

We're vulnerable, we're sensitive and we're complicated people too. So many people rolled into one. We contain so much, so much creativity, so much energy, so many contradictions, so much confusion, so much clarity. So many moments of faith and fear. So many characters that willing this. All looking for love, all looking for love, all looking for love.

Share this life with me, a lonely life. Undress that pretentious exterior, sit with me naked. Without your dreams I can't dream. Without your love I can't love.

“No matter how long you work, it’s always going to end sometime. And there’s always going to be things left undone. And it wouldn’t matter if you lived until you were seventy-five. There would still be new ideas. There would still be things that you wished you would have accomplished. You could work for several lifetimes….Part of the reason that I’m not having trouble facing the reality of death is that it’s not a limitation, in a way. It could have happened any time, and it is going to happen sometime. If you live your life according to that, death is irrelevant. Everything I’m doing right now is exactly what I want to do."

“All of the things that you make are a kind of quest for immortality. Because you’re making these things that you know have a different kind of life. They don’t depend on breathing, so they’ll last longer than any of us will. Which is sort of an interesting idea, that it’s sort of extending your life to some degree.”
- Keith Haring.

With you

 photo P1010749_zpsecba1fe7.jpg

I woke up with this marble heart in my hands.

It exhausts my elbows and I don't know where to put it down.

Slowly turning from stone to flesh.

It was falling into the dream as I was coming out of the dream.

Its self smiling at the very touch of love's grandeur.

Pleading on my very knees.

So our life become one and it will be very difficult for it to separate again.

A golden city lost in the vastness of mother earth. Simple of heart bleeding, hurt and yearning for love. Photographer Monika Bielskyte takes us far, very far away in her photos to acknowledge what is essential about life.

Distant

Although modernism as a movement may be nearly exhausted, the clarity and grace of these objects remain. Perhaps their spirituality can be even better appreciated now. Propped upright, the Cycladic idols are those who stand and wait - human beings battered by time and fate but still hoping for a revolution from beyond. Messages are no longer sought in the labyrinthine bowels of mother earth. The crispy carved Cycladic idols, appealing to the eye, carry an invigorating sense of the future. Even in their rightful positions on their backs, they are gazing skyward toward some other order - not necessarily a supreme deity but the shifting pattern of bright stars.
